Highlights

  • Guild’s first approved later living scheme.
  • Providing a benchmark of the Guild brand – a new generation of later living communities.
  • Integration with the local town and the more residential and green setting to the south of the site.
  • Providing a destination and ‘gateway’ through the site, whist still creating intimate and secure landscaping zones.

Project objective

To create a integrated, open and inspirational later living community in the heart of  Walton on Thames to address the pressing need of a lack of appropriate and well-designed later living accommodation in the area.

The design carefully integrates the ground floor amenity uses to be open and available to the local community, by  creating an environment that is inclusive and aspirational, whilst creating a safe environment for the residents.

Client challenge

The challenge was to create a community in the heart of Walton town centre, designed as campus-style open to all generations, to allow residents to live independent and active lives within beautiful and inspiring architecture and landscaping.

Life3A solution

Our solution was for the design to respond to the surrounding environment and constraints whilst integrating the client brief and brand as well as residents’ needs and requirements.  The design will allow for the residents to age in place safely and with dignity whilst the communal amenity spaces encourage interaction with the local community as well as friends and family.

Exceptional outcome

We created an exceptional built form solution, integrating the many Guild Living site requirements, whilst blending in with the more urban edge of town and the park and residential area to the south. Above all, the creation of a safe, welcoming and homely environment for the Guild Members to enjoy.
