Project objective
The client aimed to develop a contemporary community of independent living units to complement the existing Howard Court community. This involved redeveloping an inner-city location with busy street frontage and integrating with the neighbouring park.
Client challenge
The key challenge was to maximise the potential of an inner-city site that delivers modern later living apartments and communal facilities while maximising safety and independence for residents.
Life3A solution
Life3A developed a contemporary design in perimeter block-form to adjoin the street edges and face most of the apartments toward the new sunny internal courtyard. The building complements the existing and neighbouring IRT Howard Court retirement community while taking advantage of the CBD and adjacent park to maximise community interaction.
Exceptional outcome
IRT Parkside re-imagines what inner-city living can be like, providing safety, independent living, care and community connections, and communal facilities in a busy CBD location. The project stands out as a modern, attractive apartment building, contributing to the liveability and social fabric of the evolving Wollongong CBD.
